I’ve always been told I’ll make it really far as a designer thanks to my “Good Taste.” I have long struggled to grasp what “Good Taste” actually means. In the years since, I have come to realize it’s a death sentence for anyone pursuing a creative life. “Good Taste” is a myth. It’s an approximation of the creative process, not an earnest exploration of it—it’s performative, declarative, and worst of all, conclusive. It renders creativity as limitless and easily defined, bound only by whatever artistic standard is declared “good” by the ruling class. In this zine, I deliberately subverted the "good taste" concept by implementing design techniques traditionally considered "bad." Are there rules to design? Absolutely. But should we be more skeptical of who decides what these rules are? 100% percent.
